My Own Shoes |
|
I knew it all when I was young I saw my path quite clearly through the trees It didn’t seem all that hard to be the one Who would shake this bad old world down to its knees
I was fearless I was right I was ready to fight that battle through the night I didn’t know then what I had to lose But I walked in my own shoes
Nothing came out the way that I planned I didn’t get famous, I didn’t get rich The world didn’t march to my command I was a genius or a fool I don’t know which
I got humble I got wise I stopped trying to be the one who wins the prize I learned that life’s a road you rarely choose But I walked it in my own shoes
Now the days are stretching out ahead I accept what has been and what will be Sure I still do have my moments of dread No one’s invincible I’m sure you will agree
My face will get lines My hair will turn white There will be one last battle left to fight And even though I know I’ll have to lose I’ll fight it in my own shoes |
